How to start, grow, and run a business during COVID-19: Part 3
A happy customer is a repeat customer, or so the saying goes. But how can a business keep clients satisfied? The answer, according to a recent study, is to treat employees well. ~ The Economist
After several months of lockdown around the world, many businesses are facing a tough choice: do we keep running remotely or do we open our doors again? It’s a hard question and one that requires careful thought.
As employers around the world experiment with bringing their employees back to offices, the leadership must act now to ensure that when they return, workplaces are both productive and safe. ~ McKinsey
It’s at times like these when strong leadership matters more than ever. This means being the kind of boss (even if you’re just a company of one) who shows compassion and demonstrates calm. This is how you get people on board with your ideas.
Enrollment is critical. Enrollment allows leaders to lead. Not by endlessly querying those that they seek to serve, but by announcing their destination and then heading there, with all deliberate speed. ~ Seth Godin
Indeed, now is also a time for you to be brave about trying new ideas. For example, given how COVID-19 has forced many theatres to close, some artists have chosen to present virtual shows and sell their work online.
If you truly want to get unstuck, if you want to move to higher ground or do something more worthwhile, the first question to ask is, “Am I willing to be unreasonable, at least for a while?” ~ Seth Godin
Of course, not everything you do will work, nor does it have to. But as long as you have the courage to make something better and do something new, you can keep changing with the times.
A step backward isn’t the end of the world. What’s most important is that you notice them, that you understand what caused them, and that if it’s something under your control, you take appropriate action in line with what’s really important to you. ~ Trent Hamm
Ultimately, it’s important to realise that COVID-19 is an existential threat to industries around the world. But the only way to keep your customers happy (and keep your lights on) is to adapt for the long term.
For those who think and hope things will basically go back to the way they were: stop. They won’t. It is better to accept the reality that the future isn’t what it used to be and start to think about how to make it work. ~ McKinsey
